Your new website is live. Now what?

24/09/26

It’s live. It’s actually LIVE!

After months of digital strategy, steals, copy, web design, web development, amends, more amends, and that one final amend that definitely wasn’t going to lead to another amend, your shiny new website is out in the world.

Job done, right?

Well … not quite ✋.

As we say in Ebow, a website isn’t something you launch and leave behind. It’s a living, organic and ever-changing digital touchpoint between your brand and your audience. And while your website might stay exactly where you left it (we encourage you to not leave it!), your customers, competitors and the digital marketing landscape certainly won’t.

Going live is worth celebrating. But what happens next matters too.  We think it’s the most important bit.

The slow creep of outdated content

Website content can become outdated surprisingly quickly. Services evolve, teams move, campaigns end, new products launch, and that piece of content proudly labelled “NEW” eventually becomes … not so new.

Then there are the smaller things: broken links, outdated stats and CTAs, expired events or a former employee still smiling away on the Meet the Team page🧍.

One outdated link probably isn’t going to send your users running for the hills. But when these little things start to add up, they can affect how people experience (and trust) your brand as well as how Google and AI platforms think about you.

The solution does not have to be a full website overhaul. Regular content check-ins can help you catch what needs updating, refreshing or quietly retiring / sunsetting 🥲 🌅.

When did you last actually use your own website?

And we mean actually use it, buy something, send a contact form, view a service? Not just open the homepage, admire the masterpiece that is the hero banner / slider, and close the tab! It’s super important to put yourself in your audience’s shoes. It’s them you’ve to keep happy and engaged.

Ask yourself some, or all, of the following questions:

  • Can you quickly understand what your organisation does?
  • Can you find your key services?
  • Is important information where you’d expect it to be?
  • Do your CTAs make the next step obvious?
  • What would you expect to see next when you click a button?

When you work with a website every day, it’s easy to stop seeing it through the eyes of someone arriving for the very first time. This is where the seemingly small (but mighty) details matter. Clear H-tags make pages easier to scan, internal links guide users towards useful information and good CTAs tell people where to go next.

And yes, that lonely giant paragraph that has been sitting there since launch could probably use a heading. Your users shouldn’t have to work hard to find what they need.

SEO doesn’t stop at launch

Keyword research done. Metadata written. H-tags sorted. SEO: tick.

If only 🫠.

Search behaviour changes, competitors publish new content, new questions emerge, and the way search engines discover and present information continues to evolve.

And now, AI search has entered the chat. People aren’t just typing keywords into Google anymore: they’re asking full, conversational questions across AI-powered search and tools. Your content still needs the SEO basics, but it also needs to be clear, useful and actually answer what people are asking.

So, don’t throw out keyword research out the window just yet. But SEO shouldn’t be something that you complete during a website build and then leave hanging out to dry.

Are your priority pages still answering the right questions? Could your metadata be stronger? Are there opportunities to improve internal linking? Is an older article worth refreshing rather than dumping?

Before automatically adding another blog to the content calendar, look at what you already have. Sometimes the biggest opportunity isn’t creating more content. It’s making your existing content work harder.

Accessibility needs some TLC too

Accessibility doesn’t end when the website goes live either – no shortcuts 🙅‍♀️. Every new page, image and piece of content added to your site becomes part of the overall design and branding experience.

Descriptive alt text, logical heading structures, meaningful links and clear copy might seem like small details, but they all contribute to a website that’s easier to travel through and understand.

And accessibility isn’t just another box to tick before hitting publish. More accessible content means a better experience for everyone and Google loves it. Win-win!

Keep the four corners talking

Maintaining a website isn’t only a content job. A new social media marketing campaign might need a landing page, a user behaviour could highlight an awkward journey, a content update could need a new building block, or something that looks out of this world on a desktop could look questionable on mobile.

That’s where Ebow Digital’s ‘Four Corners of Excellence’ come back into play:

  • Strategy keeps the website aligned with what the users and the business need.
  • Design ensures the experience is engaging and looks the part.
  • Technology keeps everything working behind the scenes and in the ‘back office’.
  • Marketing helps the right people find it using digital marketing, content, SEO and AI Search.

A website works best when all four corners keep talking 💪.

Going live is just the beginning

A website launch is a big moment. Celebrate it, share the link, post about it on LinkedIn – maybe even close a few of those 47 odd tabs you’ve had open since the project started.

Just don’t treat launch day as goodbye. Web development projects are hard and project exhaustion is common at the end of them, take some time to yourself, but make sure to come back, make up and crack on!

Your website is one of your brand’s most important digital touch-points, and it should evolve around the organisation and audience it represents.

Keep the content fresh, keep an eye on search, protect accessibility, use semantic code and high quality web development, pay attention to the user journey and keep those four corners talking.

Because the best websites aren’t necessarily the ones with the biggest launch. They’re the ones that keep working 🔥.
